收到客人投訴, 內部要求處理:

He has written to complain that the purchases arrived damaged. We pride ourselves in the quality of our products and would like an explanation as to how this mishap occurred. Even though the items are insured, our reputation is at stake.

Complaint letter from a business customer to a telephone company

Dear Sir,

I am writing this letter to complain in the strongest terms about the poor service that I have received from your company.

We signed up to your telephone and internet service package two months ago because your advertising suggests that you are better than Telco. In addition, you promise to deal with problems quickly and efficiently, something that Telco were unable or unwilling to do. However, in the first month of service you managed to cause me to lose two days worth of business because of poor administration. The main problem was that you failed to provide me with the correct telephone number, 9818 8747, that you had promised when I completed the contract. This phone number was an established business line which I had been using for the last three years. Obviously this meant that my clients were unable to contact me and it cost me many hours of phone calls to resolve the matter with your support centre.

I would appreciate it if this situation could be resolved and a substantial rebate offered on my first three month’s account.

Conjunction – After (1)

今日講after既問題

For the case that user …… (省略) after complete a task

當after作為一個conjunction (連接詞), 其中一個較formal既用法就係

after + -ing

以上句子可以寫成

For the case that user …… (省略) after completing a task

當然唔係次次見after都係咁, 因為after有其用途
但係如果見到呢d case, 簡單咁記住, after / before 之後既動詞幫佢加 ing

e.g.
After completing this form, return it to the Director’s office.
He wrote his first book after visiting China.

遲d再講after其他用法

Articles (1) – Introduction

試下睇下面既句子有咩問題:

用中文照解係冇問題的
英文黎講, 句子上既articles (冠詞) 用得不合切
articles分開 indefinite article (不定冠詞) 同definite article (定冠詞)正確既句子應該寫做:

There were some problems with the deflection results. When the deflections were measured with a ruler or a travelling microscope, the results showed errors.

indefinite article
簡單黎講indefinite article就係指 “a” (“an“係有響音(vowel)既名詞用的)，用黎講一d好general既事物, e.g., a boy ß (一個)男仔。

definite article
呢個就係用 “the” 黎講一d比較specific既事物 (或者叫做指明某一樣野)。E.g. the boy ß (個嗰)男仔

而家再試下用呢個concept黎睇番句句子

There were some problems with the deflection results. When the deflections (呢個the解釋左個deflections係指明前一個deflection result) were measured with a ruler (是但一把ruler, 冇指明邊把) or a travelling microscope (都係是但一個, 冇指明的), the results (指定的result) showed errors.

呢個article用法比較複雜, 遲d再post番一個summarized左既用法會易明d

Able / Unable to (1)

係尋日既checking當中發現左以下既句子:

“User unable to have …”

先講able (unable只係佢既相反意思)
able係一個形容詞 (adjective), 用黎形容有能力
佢既用法要係 subject + be + able + infinitive
                             主腳 + 助動詞 + able + to

就以上句子, user 係主腳, 跟住係(un)able + to, 好明顯少左個be
通常able / unable 俾人以為就係一個動詞, 咁就錯喇….佢只係一個形容詞
中文d人會解做 “user 冇能力去……”
而英文就一定要寫成 “user 係 冇能力去……”
所以成句要寫成

“User is unable to have a consolidate view of…”

其實is able to 同 can/could 既用途一樣, 你可以講成

“User cannot consolidate view of…”

用be able to 而唔用can/could 既原因係able to 能夠有好多tense既變化而can只有can/could

e.g. :

• I have been able to swim since I was five. (present perfect)
• You will be able to speak perfect English very soon. (future simple)
• I would like to be able to fly an airplane.

記住喇….
